Props FAQ

Q:  Where can I go to get props?
A:  There are many resources available both on and off campus for the rental or purchase of props for your production.  A few of these are listed below, but if you ever need assistance locating a prop or problem-solving a prop need, please do not hesitate to contact the staff of Undergraduate Production:

Yale School of Drama Props Warehouse:
This is a great resource for large furniture and household items such as tables, chairs, large appliances, as well as small platforms and unique architectural items and some smaller props.  More Information here.

Salvation Army:
There is a location about 10-15 minutes north of New Haven at 1359 Dixwell Ave. in Hamden, CT that has more furniture and larger items.

IKEA:
Great for inexpensive, stylistically modern furniture and set dressing items.  Located at 450 Sargent Drive in New Haven.

Q: What if I don’t have access to a car?
A: If you don’t have access to a car to go to the props warehouse or to some other local stores to pick up props, consider the Yale Zip Car.  Hourly rentals are easy and affordable.  More information here: http://www.zipcar.com/yale

Q: What do I do with my props after my production is over?
A:  Talk with your UP advisor about this.  Some items should be donated to the YSD Props warehouse, other items can be donated to Salvation Army or Goodwill, while still other items might be best recycled or discarded.
