Title: Operations and Production Manager, Undergraduate Production / Yale Baroque Opera Project / Yale Dance Lab

Full time continuing position, 10 months per year (2 month seasonal leave each summer).

Position Focus:

Working as part of the Undergraduate Production (UP) team,  advise and oversee all aspects of designated student performance-based activities (principally Yale Baroque Opera and Yale Dance Lab), as well as selected professionally produced events, in a range of venues, ensuring safety throughout the process.

  • Oversee all aspects of performance activities for the faculty-led Yale Baroque Opera Project and the Yale Dance Lab, ensuring compliance with policies and best practices. Manage organization websites, ticketing, and publicity processes.
  • As part of the UP team, review student performance proposals and advise student performance activities.

Reports to:  Senior Technical Director, Undergraduate Production

Duties:
The duties listed below are more complete than the essential duties listed on the BrassRing website.

  • Lead safety oversight and support of designated undergraduate productions.
  • Serve as the staff administrator for all performance activities of designated projects (YBOP and YDL).
  • Oversee financial operations for YBOP and YDL.
  • Manage Front of House coordination for YBOP and YDL and ensure that the Front of House policies are created consistently with the presentation vision of each program.
  • Ensure that the administration of music production is run appropriately and efficiently.
  • Negotiate contracts for all performances and activities under the responsibility of this position. Ensure that all contract details are properly carried out.
  • Collaborate with other technical managers.
  • Oversee all aspects of promotion and public relations for YBOP and YDL, including the timely creation of programs and promotional materials.
  • Serve as staff leader of calendar planning for YBOP and YDL, working in collaboration with production managers and appropriate faculty and staff from programs both within and outside the department.
  • Ensure that streaming and other digital dissemination have proper rights clearances
  • Advise staff and students on technical issues and compliance with safety regulations.
  • Oversee all aspects of guest artist participation in concerts and other events.
  • Coordinate with staff in safety offices at Yale, including Environmental Health and Safety, Risk Management, and Fire Code Compliance.
  • Evaluate student capabilities and, as needed, supervise, train, and mentor, students during strikes, load-ins, and tech rehearsals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree Music or a related area and five years of work experience as an arts administrator or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education and Experience:

Event management experience, experience managing websites, and experience in dance and/or opera preferred. 
 

Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of production-related health and safety best practices and concerns and ability to identify and correct potential hazards.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize complex workload.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively and flexibly with a large number of faculty, staff, students, community members, guest artists, and other professionals representing a wide diversity of personalities and cultures.
