Title: Operations and Production Manager

Full time, term limited position through May 31, 2022

Possibility of renewal for 10 months per year (2 month seasonal leave each summer)

Review of applications will begin October 1, 2021 and will continue until position is filled.

Position Focus:

Oversee all aspects of performance activities for the faculty-led Yale Baroque Opera Project and the Yale Dance Lab, ensuring compliance with policies and best practices. Manage organization websites, ticketing, and publicity processes. Foster an inclusive and respectful working environment around production activity at Yale College. Carry out duties while exercising a high degree of autonomy and discretion.

Position Duties:

  • Track the overall budget for the Yale Baroque Opera Project/Yale Dance Lab and manage breakdown of individual production budget(s).
  • Ensure appropriate spending and accurate accounting for all expenditures associated with productions.
  • Hire and manage temporary staff for a variety of roles including directors, designers, musicians, electricians, etc.
  • Develop and oversee all production elements and coordinate with Undergraduate Production for timely safety review.
  • Schedule and attend production meetings with artistic teams, Undergraduate Production, and venue management.
  • Manage technical rehearsals and production load in and strike schedules. 
  • Ensure communication of schedules, contact sheets, and all relevant updates to appropriate staff, professional schools, and departments at Yale.
  • Manage all publicity and marketing, ensuring maximum exposure to the public, at Yale and beyond.
  • Ensure timely payment of artistic, design, production, publicity and musical staff.
  • Ensure timely payment of invoices for equipment and venue rental, and for recording services.
  • Arrange all necessary rental and transportation of musical instruments and properties, including transportation between rehearsal, performance, and storage locations.
  • Manage all purchasing required for productions.
  • Arrange and oversee professional archival video, sound recording, and photography from the physical shoot through editing and mastering.
  • Organize and execute an opening reception for each production.

Reports to: Senior Technical Director, Undergraduate Production, faculty leadership,  Yale Baroque Opera Project/Yale Dance Lab

Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in an arts field or a related area and 5 years of work experience as an arts administrator or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education and Experience:

Event management experience, experience managing websites, and experience in dance and/or opera preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of production-related health and safety best practices and concerns and ability to identify and correct potential hazards.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize complex workload.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively and flexibly with a large number of faculty, staff, students, community members, guest artists, and other professionals representing a wide diversity of personalities and cultures.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.
